Welcome to My Academic Portfolio!

  Hi reader!  I have created this portfolio to highlight my academic success, skills, and knowledge acquired from completing the Intro to Engineering Professions course. I will be highlighting my strengths and achievements pertaining to my coursework, which will be encapsulated by the assignments included throughout the portfolio. The portfolio will also include a brief reflection on my personal growth from this course and what my takeaways are. I hope you enjoy! My Academic SMART Plan

 Here is my SMART plan to graduation, curated for me by my counselor! So far, I have yet to add my geology minor but I have officially signed up for my second geology class to be taken in the fall 2021 semester. If it looks a little blurry, feel free to zoom in!!! 

My Student Enhancement Plan

My student enhancement plan is an embodiment of my academic, professional, and personal goals for involvement during my time at FGCU. Despite highlighting my five year plan to graduation, many of my goals included deadlines for spring, summer, and fall of this year to keep me an active student. My academic and professional goals are aligned because taking classes catered to a career in environmental engineering and a minor in geology will help me prepare for a future internship and career. The student enhancement plan did prove to be a good motivational tool and broaden my social,academic, and professional network at FGCU.   “FGCU Remembers: The Covid Memorial Project.” Visited on: March 22 nd , 2021 at 8:27 AM I heard about this art display on March 21 st (my birthday!) through FGCU’s main Instagram account page. The caption read: “thousands of hand-sculpted tributes going up on FGCU’s Great Lawn as a powerful visual memorial to the scores of individuals lost to COVID-19. “The art installation is called: “Field of Remembrance, Cathedral of Sky” as stated in the caption on Instagram. I really wanted to go and see it because so many people’s lives were lost this past year to COVID, that it is difficult to picture the amount in our minds. Seeing the visual representation on the library lawn was a sad but eye-opening experience because I was able to visually quantify the number of lives lost to the virus just locally in SWFL. I noticed that some of the flowers were painted with a brown and blue rim, whereas others were left white. I also noticed that it seemed as if each flower was handmade instead...

  Wasmer Art Gallery: 23 rd Annual Juried Student Exhibition Visited on: March 19 th at 1:00PM, March 22 nd at 12:30PM Reflection: The art Wasmer gallery was hosting its student exhibition from March 19 th - April 1 st , and I was lucky enough to see it twice in that time! The first time I visited however, I forgot to take any pictures as proof of going so I went back with a friend the second time. I am so impressed by the artists on this campus! Some of my favorite pieces, which I will picture below, include Adrian Cruz’s Skull Life , 2020 in ceramic and Eric Loya’s Dystopia Utopia #1-3, 2020 graphic design collection. One that I did not take a picture of, but I loved as well was Megan McCarthy’s Sunlight Kisses , 2021 which was acrylic pain on canvas. Selected Assignment: Phosphorus Pollution

Here is a link to the google slides presentation Elizabeth and I created and presented in class on 04/13/21 at 10:30AM. This project was very beneficial to me because I feel as though I learned so much about fertilizer runoff issues we face on the local, national, and international scales. I also learned about what can be done to lessen environmental and economic impacts. I really enjoyed presenting my findings to the cass and I hope my peers found the information informative and implementable into their lifestyles! Semester Project Phosphorus Pollution  

Selected Assignment: Scholarly Advancement

Taking this class helped me understand what environmental engineering, and the grand challenges, were all about! I wanted to take my course project and what I learned about in class to another level by interviewing a licensed professional environmental engineer that works with the South West Florida Water Management District. I learned a lot and the interview put potential career choices into perspective for me. The interview questions can be seen in red.  Reflection The interview was held last Wednesday, March 31 st , from 8:30 to 9:00 AM. I feel as though I gained a lot of both personal knowledge in terms of career outlook and a lot of important knowledge to use in my presentation with Elizabeth. Even though the questions were guided towards agriculturally related phosphorous issues and water management, the interview was very informative about what an engineer’s perspective on things are like. Selected Assignment: Community Engagement

I joined an engineering student organization (Society of Women Engineers) and attended the E-Week event held on 02/25/2021 from 3:00-4:30 PM. The event was housed on the library lawn. The event was held by multiple engineering RSO’s, including SWE. E-Week included tie-dying, catapult making, slime, a snow cone truck, and “bridge” building (with Jenga blocks). It was an enjoyable event, and I was able to talk to the engineering outreach specialist, Julie Rose, who I met during the two-week BEaM camp I attended with the school this past summer. She told me about an upcoming tour of the water school being put on by the FES RSO. It is coming up on 03/17/21 and I am interested in attending. Since I am considering a minor in environmental geology, I may end up taking some classes in this building. In general, though, it is nice to stay involved in the new buildings on campus. I look forward to attending more SWE events and I am glad I was able to join the club via eagle link. Unfortunately, ...
